Shihan Hood started his martial arts training in Judo in 1967 however the training only
lasted a short time as the instructor was transferred( also a military man). Shihan
continued his training (in Isshinryu) while on active duty in the U.S. Marines on
Okinawa in 1973.When he left he was instructed to continue training. On his return to
his home in Abilene,there was no Issenryu in which to continue and his search took him
to Sensei Krupa. Impressed with the straight foreword attitude of Sensei Krupa and the
no nonsense fighting style of Kyokushin, Shihan Hood started training in 1978.Shihan
Hood currently holds a 6th dan in The school of The Leopard Martial Arts and a 4th
Dan in the American Kyokushin Karate Organization. His training has also included
Akido, Aiki-Jujitsu and Acupressure Healing. Shihan was appointed to the American
Kyokushin Karate Organization Council on Sept 9th 2006. He currently teaches Black
belts only out of his school West Texas Kyokushin in Abilene Texas.
